Fighting food waste and Hunger, 2023 was the 10th year of the event.
What a pleasure it was for Kitchen by Mike to be part of the OZharvest Community Cookoff again, fighting food waste and Hunger. 2023 was the 10th year of the event and it is always an honour to work with Ronni kahn and the Ozharvest team at their flagship fundraiser.
This year, we were very grateful to have Michael Baulch, Vice President & Managing Director of Boston Scientific, join us for the second year running with his team for this incredible occasion. It’s always inspiring working with people from different walks of life, endeavouring to bring a positive impact to the community.
Our goal for the night was to cook together, and provide 50 nutritious meals to be delivered to people in need around Sydney, followed by a dinner in the restaurant for the very humble and generous Pastor Warren Weir, founder of Providential Homes and 28 amazing men he provides shelter for and helps find their way.
Cooking a hearty meal for these chaps, and to have the opportunity to sit and eat together, was one of the most touching experiences I have had in a long time. It was the simple gesture of sharing the joy of dinning out which meant the world to them and also me. These spirited men have had some extremely tough challenges in life and I was honoured to share a meal, engage in real conversation, and listen to their stories. They are a brave bunch of men, who I am sure will find their own paths and will always be welcomed with open arms at Kitchen by Mike.
Events like this, remind us that the power of food brings people together and can make a real difference. It's about more than just the meal; it's about creating meaningful connections and fostering a sense of belonging.
